Patient Education
Educating the low-income, under served population about oral health and its link
to overall health, is the most important role that Community Centre plays.
Basic Dental Care Information
Prevention knowledge goes hand-in-hand with many dental treatments. Disadvantaged
and poor population groups are taught how dental diseases can be prevented at home
with hygiene, or the dental treatments that are used to halt, treat, and prevent
dental disease from affecting health and wellness. Caring for teeth can mean a lifetime
of chewing and smiling. Teeth can last for a life time with the right prevention
and knowledge is imparted. Dentist will also educate that with smoking there is
teeth loss. Teeth can last a lifetime with oral care. There is emphasis on the importance
of staying healthy.
Children's dental care is often overlooked, because many people believe those tiny
baby teeth are just going to fall out one day, and be replaced with a set of second
chance teeth. The importance and caring for baby teeth is one of the most valuable
lessons imparted. Good oral health care during pregnancy is must.
Basic oral healthcare implies
Brushing teeth twice a day removes plague, prevents tooth decay and gum (periodontal)
disease which damages gum tissue and the bones that support teeth. Use a toothpaste
that contains fluoride, this helps prevent tooth decay and cavities.
Prevents bad breath by getting rid of bacteria that cause bad breath.
Avoid using tobacco products, which can cause gum disease and oral cancer. Exposure
to tobacco smoke (secondhand smoke) also may cause gum disease as well as other
health problems.
Practice tongue cleaning. You can use a tongue cleaner or a soft-bristle toothbrush,
stroking in a back-to- front direction. Tongue cleaning is particularly important
for people who smoke or whose tongues are coated or deeply grooved.
